HI GUYS.......SO BIG NEWS!!!! I don't know if I have mentioned this already but my boss had commissioned me to do a poster for the lobby of his building and I have been working on it for what seems like for ever, I have changed it at least 7 times. Now there will be a ribbon cutting because our office is celebrating its 20th anniversary and he wants the piece for the ribbon cutting; hence my title this week cutting the ribbon.. So I am excited because after weeks upon of weeks of working and re-working it will finally be happening and I can't wait to see my work hanging on that wall... FINALLY!!!. the ribbon cutting will be on August 20th so in just a few more weeks. Stay tuned for pictures.
I am thinking that I will take this opportunity and order business cards to have for the event because you never know if someone might be interested. I also started fixing my images and I will be reloading them on the website and my Etsy shop. Another thing I am working on now is a flower series inspired the the almond trees and Selia flowers I saw in Puerto Rico.

So I went to Puerto Rico last weekend and had a great time!! My friends and I walked around Old San Juan and did Snuba diving and snorkeling . We basically went to a beach everyday it was great. I will keep this post short. There are some pictures below.
Hi everyone! Sorry I have been away from the blog for a bit, I became a bit lazy and distracted. I was also having some trouble finding something to blog about. This commitment to blogging once a week has become a bit harder than I thought. But so far here is what I am up to, I bought. the new issue of Art Journaling from Somerset. Studio I love that magazine I really suggest you guys pick it up. I also bought a book called Art Journal Art Journey. I like this book it has a lot of recommendations and tips on how to do the art journaling. I don't know about you guys but I feel like one of the problems for me is how to start a journal page and how to express what I want to say. Third third magazine is called Zentangle, has anyone heard of Zentangle? I have not I but apparently. It is supposed to be good for relaxing. I started a Zentangle drawing there is a picture below. I thought it would be fun to try something new. It is an interesting process you start by. I also took a walk this week d and visited the Metropolitan Museum and walked into Central Park I have not done that in a long time. One last thing I took a trip last weekend which I am looking forward to since I need a break. I will have some new colorful pictures and inspiration . There are pictures below and stay tuned for my vacation pictures.
Hi everyone, sorry I missed last weeks post, but I am here this week. I meant to post on Sunday but t I spent the day shopping because I have to go to a wedding next weekend. So here I am late Tuesday night post I hope you guys can take a look at it.
So last post I made I showed pictures of Tulips that I had seen in one of my walks. Of course I started sketching some things so show you guys see what I had come up with. I also have a nice treat!! I video taped myself drawing one the Tulips sketches, so you can check how I start one of my pieces. The video is on my Facebook page at Rosemary Estrella Digital Art, sorry but I couldn't upload the video to this blog. Eventually I want to try is adding music to the videos but I have to figure out how to do that So take a look at the sketches below enjoy!!! So I went on one of my famous walks this weekend and I stumbled on this little tulip garden at NYU Garden Shop , think it was on Bleeker Street if I am not mistaken.
I case you could not tell from my title I LOVE TULIPS !!!! So of course I took a bunch of pictures. The shapes are so simple but beautiful and classic and I am in love with the colors. And you all know what is coming-NEW SKETCHES AND NEW COLORFUL ART... so stay tuned. So take a walk if you are in the area and love tulips as much as I do. Something else that I saw this week is that there is a a new art display at Madison Square Park by Teresita Fernandez called "FATA MORGANA". These are organic shaped metal pieces that are installed overhead on scaffold. It is very pretty and since it is installed overhead it creates some interesting shadows on the ground. I have added some pictures below. One more quick thing I wanted to mention is that as a follow up to my previous post in which I mentioned that I was afraid to start a new mixed media project. Well guess what? I started it !!! There is a picture below and I will share the process pictures and the final outcome. Check out the starter picture below. So it is Thursday night and I want to start a collage on my new multi-media journal but... I am having the hardest time starting. I am not sure how to begin, what I want to say, or what images to use. I am afraid of ruining it or of making something that does not look good. Which is constant thing for me to be afraid of making of move.
You guys should see I have a bunch of stuff out my crayons, some drawings from, and markers and I don't know what to do !!! why? How do you guys start a project when you are not sure how to begin? I think that is always a challenge when you have to tackle a project. What do you guys think? If you guys are curious look at the materials I have to work with, Hi everybody, I was on one of my walks through union square and I saw the trees with such pretty flowers in them I was inspired to take pictures of them, definitely going to use this in my art work somehow. I am also excited because I have few new followers on twitter, that is always exciting that brings it to a total of 81!! That may not be a lot but for me it might as well be a million. Tomorrow is my Monday night painting class at the Art Studio New York. I am really looking forward to see how the finished painting comes out. I will keep you guys posted.
Anyway ,I was roaming around the village and took some nice pictures of random things that I think look interesting. I tend to like objects that have interesting shapes, besides that I love the brownstones in NYC I find them to be so beautiful and they give the city so much character. So obviously there are some pictures below of this as well. Also for some reason I love the shape of the construction machines the CAT. Yes I know I am weird... but I think they look so cool! Does anyone else think the same?or not, it's ok if you don't. One more quick thing I wanted to mention is that i started reading an issue of Somerset Digital Studio, and the new Somerset Art Journaling I will share the information next time. I don't like to make these too long... but stay tuned. Have a nice Sunday afternoon. Hi everyone, I know it is Saturday night so I will make it short. I mentioned earlier in a tweet that there was an exhibit in Madison Square Park and I promised more pictures. So I will post them now.
It is this really cool exhibit by Paula Hayes called Gazing Globes and it is going at Madison Square Park. The pictures are below and since the weather is nice out go check them out... tomorrow is the last day Good Night!! Hello everyone, like I mentioned before I started taking an art class on Monday nights. I am so excited about it I have something to look forward to at the end of the day on Mondays. It is an intro to painting class and first project was a mono chromatic painting. I have included some pictures below of painting. What else can I talk about.....I am working hard to try and blog once a week and it is a bit of a challenge to find a topic to write about, those of you who know me, know that I am not big on talking, although it is more writing but still it is a challenge. Does anyone have any comments or constructive critics, ideas for blogging?
Like I mentioned on my last post I am starting dabble with the mixed media I went to Barnes and Noble the most magical place in the whole wide world, next to Disney Land of course! Any way I bought a book full of artist papers. The book is called "Flow" there is also a magazine with this name. I know what you guys are thinking... papers really? Yes!!! papers I almost jumped up and down like a 5 year old when I saw it. I showed it to one of friends ( you know who you are) and she thought it was cool and it is really cool! It has stickers, all kinds of colored papers, post cards, even decorated paper bags! Take a look at the pictures below. I also started watching youtube videos of mixed media artists. Specifically art journaling, if you type in mixed media art journaling there are a lot informative videos that show step by step instructions. I will post pictures of the mixed media when I have enough to show. Big news I am taking an art class. YAY! it is a beginner's painting class and I am really excited about it. Anyway just wanted to share that. Also I have become interested in mixed media work. I have been watching these cool videos on mixed media techniques and art journaling. I made a trip to the art store and picked up a mixed media sketch book so that I can start working on it. I also saw these really cool mixed media effects at the art store which I am so excited to try. I like to go to my local thrift store to collect some interesting items . Some items I have been collecting are antique postcards from the 1930s'-1940s. They are real postcards written by people in Europe at the time. I find it so interesting and sad at the same time, I have this post card that some one wrote like 80 years ago but then I think who wrote this and what do they say, and why did the write them, who did they write them to (the post cards are in other languages so I can't read them)? Some of them are dated around the time of World War II and I think... wow what was this person going through at this crazy time in history? Where they writing to a loved one explaining how scary the situation was? And now I have this postcard and I wonder is the writer of the postcard alive is the person who was receiving it alive? How did this person's postcard end up in a pile at thrift shop...that I feel, is the sad part. I put some pictures below about what I am talking about. So take a look at the pictures. Any comments or insights let me know. This is the mixed media techniques that I am going to start trying out. |
